All Star break

July 14

I am holded up in a motel in Chicago to watch the Baseball All Star Game on TV.  Baseball is about the only reason I am sorry I don't have a TV in the Doodle.
I recently heard on the radio that the St. Louis Cardinals baseball team is having a promotion called Christian Day.  Unless there is a player named Christian Day it must be a religious observance of baseball. We heathens in California have not done this as a promotion.  To be PC we would also be obliged to do a Jewish Day, a Buddhist Day, etc.  We just stick to Bobble heads for our baseball promos.
On further research it turns out that this is the 24th annual day of faith, fellowship, and baseball for the Cardinals which is a fundraiser for a worthy cause. I had forgotten how much religion is a part of the culture in the Midwest.  The exploration of culture, history,  literature and art is the purpose of this trip. Plus visiting many friends and relations and eating some good regional food.

Play Ball!

  1. I read this entry in total to David, who is baseball's most devoted fan! Didn't know that your many interests include baseball - I think you are a "renaissance woman", Liz !!

    1. Bob had always been a baseball fan and I watched the Giants with him beginning in 2010, not because they won the World Series that year but because he stopped playing golf that year. This was something we could do together. I think we watched all 162 games each year after that. He taught me a lot about the game, what to watch for and to pay attention or you will miss
      something.

    2. I'll suggest Christian Day to Mark. Perhaps they can start small with the SJ Giants. OR draft someone named Christian Day. Good call. :-)
