Park City, Utah

Thursday June 18

Bonneville Salt Flats

Driving to Salt Lake City I passed the Bonneville Salt Flats near Wendover, Utah. So this photo is for you car guys, my brothers Mike and Bill.

My tech guru Bobbie, showed me how to format this blog so not so much space would be wasted. Pretty neat, huh?

Snow Logic

Stopped at Snow Logic, grandson Tyler's place of employment for a tour of the facility.  They produce the equipment that makes snow for the resorts before the real snow comes and even then to fill in bare spots. I think.

Ty took me to dinner at Maxwell's in Park City and afterward we took in an outdoor concert.
Lots of young people and kids and dogs.

Ty's Park City Driveway

The Doodlebug driveway surfed at Ty's place while I was there. Checked out the house he shares with two roommates.
The guys installed a climbing wall in the living room.

Washington Schoolhouse Hotel

Visited Taylor, a friend who is a concierge at a small Park City hotel, which was a school in the late 1800's and has been beautifully restored as the Washington School Hotel.

Park City Library

We began a walking tour of Park City with the library which also is one of the venues for the Sundance Film Festival. It has a great view of the ski runs in Park City.

Ty's a great tour guide running my legs off for three days.  No naps for me.

The skateboard park where he spends a lot of his spare time with friends.

Walking around town he seems to know everyone.

Art installations. This one is in one of the parks.

 A fence made of skis.
A favorite walk near town where Ty performed an impromptu musical concert.

Historic Park City neighborhood

At the newly still under construction museum of the 2002 Winter Olympics there is a practice ski run where the skiers end up in the water in the summer.

Driving up Guardsman's Pass through the beautiful Wasatch mountains

So spectacular! I  took about 100 photos.

There was an annual run called Ragnar. People struggling to get to the top running or biking.
I only saw a handful of overweight people in this very fit town of mostly young people. And they were probably tourists. Have only seen this many bikes in Norway, Sweden, Denmark.

At the top we were strapped in for the wild ride to the bottom

Setting up for "Savor the Summit" event

All the local restaurants set up tables down the center of Main Street for an evening dinner complete with candlelight and music. All reserved in advance of course and quite a swanky affair.

Park Silly

One last event before I took off Sunday morning is their weekly Park Silly, a festival of music, food, arts and crafts. It features a climbing wall where little kids were getting to the top!

It's clear why Tyler loves it here with so much to do....skiing, snowboarding, biking, hiking, golf, skateboarding, rock climbing, restaurants and bars for play time.  Thanks for a great time, Ty!

Now I need to get on the road for a rest.....

And it's clear I need a lot more practice with this formatting thing.
